Highway and drainage design
We design the highway and its drainage together, or either one on its own, depending on what the scheme needs. Each discipline has its own Civil 3D model, and these are combined into a federated model and checked before issue. Every scheme is led by one of our directors, each with over 15 years' experience in highway and drainage design.
What we design
Junctions. Site accesses, priority junctions, roundabouts, the civils for signal-controlled junctions, and junction improvements.
Roads and streets. Development internal roads, urban and rural link roads, road improvement schemes, and cycle and pedestrian schemes.
Site infrastructure. Data centre sites, EV charging hubs, car parks, service yards and loading areas, earthworks and levels, and utility and ducting coordination.
Data centres. Access for operation and maintenance, internal roads and parking, drainage and SuDS, platforms and utility coordination.
Drainage design and SuDS. Drainage strategies, flood risk assessments, site-wide drainage and SuDS, and adoptable sewers under Section 104.
3D civil modelling. A Civil 3D model of the design, from which formation design and levels can be output for site. We also build 3D models for contractors and consultancies.
Included in every design, where applicable
-
Design to DMRB and to the local highway authority's design guide
-
Pavement design to DMRB CD 226 where the scheme needs it
-
Vehicle and pedestrian restraint requirements specified to DMRB CD 377, for contractor procurement
-
Signs and lines drawings to TSRGD
-
Design coordinated with street lighting team
-
Swept path checks
-
Departures from standard identified and agreed before detailed design starts
-
Designer's responses to road safety audits, Stages 1 to 4 (GG 119), and to highway authority comments
-
Civil 3D models for highway and drainage, independently checked before issue
At any stage, under any agreement
We work from planning and feasibility through preliminary and detailed design to construction support. Schemes are delivered for adoption under Section 278, Section 38 or Section 184, or as private roads. See Stages for how each stage works.
What others provide
Traffic signal design is by a signals specialist, and junction capacity modelling by transport consultants. We coordinate street lighting but don't design it. We don't offer structures, geotechnical or environmental design, and we'll tell you early if your scheme needs them.
